As Rinette Dikla Hilt burns at the stake, she begs the heavens for a second chance to atone for her sins and escape her wretched fate. Unaware that Argos, the second prince and her beloved, and Kanna, her adopted sister, were conspiring against her, Rinette played her part in the death of Crown Prince Pinberk. The blame fell on her as Argos and Kanna dropped their masks and displayed their wicked greed for power.

Waking up on the day her father brings in Kanna, Rinette decides to utilize what death taught her. Although Rinette ruins Kanna's initial plans, Kanna still covets all that Rinette possesses and is prepared to kill for it. Rinette plots to avoid Argos and grow closer to Pinberk—occasionally relying on an unexpected ally—but she knows not to trust anyone while ensuring that Kanna never gains a place in her family and the opportunity to destroy her again.
